Faces of Jeep is a column that features real Jeep owners and shares their special moments in the tight-knitted Jeep community.

Arriving in a black jumpsuit, a side shave and a bold red lip, Khay Mun, Marketing Communications Director at Halley Medical Aesthetics and Halley Body Slimming Clinic, is more than just someone with a petite frame and a sweet smile. While we sat down at Sanity Coffee Bar to chat, Khay Mun mentioned that “Nothing I had before is comparable to the Jeep Wrangler”. Read on to find out how the Jeep Wrangler is now an integral part of her lifestyle and family.

Can you recall your first Jeep experience? Where did it come from?

The first encounter I had with a 4x4 was before I got married. I liked the rugged look of it as it made a statement compared to the usual sedans you see on the roads. I thought to myself, “Hmm, I would like to own something like that one day”.

I guess being a history and war buff, the history of Jeep during WW2 really intrigued me. The more I researched about how the brand progressed, and how the Jeep transformed over the years, I knew I had to try the Jeep Wrangler. It was that particular  4x4 look, the road presence and the rich history that I really resonated with. I’ve always driven a sedan so I wanted to try something different. When I got into the Jeep Wrangler for a test-drive, I knew this is it — this is it for me.

How does driving the Jeep Wrangler make you feel?

I feel very empowered! It’s like having the power to do what I like but at the same time, not being an arrogant show-off. It’s low key flexing — if you have it, you have it. I love that my Jeep Wrangler is always on standby for me to go anywhere, do anything. The choice to go off-roading anytime was also very appealing. If I choose not to, I can also drive down highways in the city for that urban living experience. There’s a misconception that the Jeep Wrangler is heavy and sluggish, due to its noticeable size. However, when going up car park ramps, it was actually quite speedy and easy to maneuver.

Tell me more about your considerations when you were choosing your Jeep Wrangler.

I am an adventure seeker. I like to make a statement. I don’t like the status quo. Practicality-wise, the Jeep Wrangler really complements my family’s lifestyle. I have two active boys who love the outdoors, and I like that the Jeep Wrangler is able to accommodate our bikes whenever we go for a fun day out. Also, as a working mother, the Jeep Wrangler is spacious enough for me to do my groceries and run errands smoothly.

What do you think other people should know about the Jeep?

Debunking another misconception, people always do not associate Jeep with luxury. Personally, I feel that Jeep recognizes the new profile of owners that will be attracted to the ruggedness of the automobile, yet would prefer something more versatile. For instance, Jeepers have the option of keeping the top on for a sedan feel, but also the freedom to remove their car top for a panoramic breezy view or even car doors when they go off-road. Over the years, Jeep has morphed from the tough, aggressive war vehicle to the luxury car it is today. For those that are considering a vehicle that is very drivable in urban landscapes that stands out from the rest of the normal SUVs, they should really consider the Jeep Wrangler.

The Jeep community is pretty close-knit in Singapore. What does the word “community” mean to you?

It means tolerance, compassion and open-mindedness to be the first person to lead a change. Only with that, then you can bring a community together. Whether it be empowering a community of underprivileged residents,  friends or like-minded people with similar interests, I think it’s something any community needs to bear in mind.

If you had to express your Jeep Wrangler in 3 adjectives what would they be?

Presence. Maneuverability. Empowering.
